We didn’t spend all that much time together, although I was once a guest in his home and played on one of his records, Eye Of The Storm. When I met Mark Heard in 1979, it didn’t occur to me that he had little more than a decade left to live. It never occurred to me that one day I would be examining the bones of his work and calling new air into them, like “a hymn to the memory of the orphans of God”. There were others I would have imagined to be more suited to the task given to me by Jeff Grantham, people closer to Mark or people more intertwined with the material than I. Yet, the work fell to me, and I have embraced it wholeheartedly. Thank you, Jeff & Janet Grantham for your trust, Janet & Rebecca Heard for your blessing, Dan Russell for your enthusiasm, and to all involved on a creative and technical level - I like to think Mark would be thanking you for your involvement in this endeavor. As always, I thank Merrill and my daughters Kate and Maddy. ~ Phil Madeira
We would also like to thank Dr. Chuck Dietzen, Paul Mahern, Jimmy Rhine (Five Head Entertainment), Chyna Brackeen (Attack Monkey Productions), and Christina Rowe (Three Rivers Records).
